Classic sports drinks are built on sugar. We use none — here is the thinking, including the one real argument for sugar and why it does not win for a daily drink.

Most sports drinks lead with sugar — 20 to 40 grams in a single serve, sometimes more. It is the first ingredient and the loudest. SOLT uses none. Here is the thinking.
The one honest argument for sugar.
In clinical rehydration salts, a little glucose helps your gut pull sodium across — sodium and glucose are absorbed together. It is real science. But it is built for treating illness, and the effect is small for a dilute drink you sip slowly across a hot day rather than down in one go.
Why it does not win for a daily drink.
Something you might drink every day in the heat is exactly where a sugar load is the last thing you want. A clean, zero-sugar drink fits daily life, fasting mornings and low-carb routines — and earns its taste from natural sweetening, not from sugar.
So what about taste?
